Yikes... I was randomly wandering the net and found this article on the Guardian Unlimited about the us being "Armed to the teeth."

Some of the more interesting quotes:

"The US is responsible for about 40% of the world's military spending." "The US spends more each year than the next nine largest national defence budgets combined."

Instead of everyone just spending more on the military, it'd be nice if we spent less, and were perhaps a bit closer in power level to some of the other countries. (I'm a big fan of balance of power.)

How important is it that others spend more? Most wars as of late have been civil wars, and in general it probably be nicer if everyone just had fewer weapons. (Of course I'm aware that might just not be practical).
