I'm watching it rsync my mp3s back. The system feels faster than under win2k, and the rsync via ssh is way faster.
I've got X working, sound working, and the network working. I've gotten rid of most of the daemon processes so it only takes a few seconds to boot to console.
Better yet, there's still some tricks that I might be pull off to speed things up even further. I haven't killed lprng yet. And there's still the possibility of futher optimizing the choice between kernel features linked directly in versus loading as modules. The usb stuff is really slow to initialize, and I don't need it that often yet, so its dumped as modules.
I don't know how long it'll take to boot into X with the current config. I should probably go to sleep instead of finishing it off.
