To car or not to car

So my car is misbehaving and as usual while procrastinating on what to do I have once again wondered if I should break down and buy another car.

I'm currently driving a 1991 Mazda 323 with 156,000 miles in los angeles.

LA pretty much requires the use of a car though because of the sunny weather cars tend to last a long time.

My top options are, fix my car again and hobble along till the Pasadena blue line comes on line in 2003. Another advantage to waiting is the Tango two seater electric car might be available then.

Alternatively there's going off and buying a new car now. (Yes there's the other choice of buying a used car but if I'm buying something new I want it to last for as long as possible.

But I also wanted to save money and think about buying a house, condo, or starting an intentional community, and buying a car would slow that down.

*sigh* Given my belief system, perhaps trying to survive to 2003 is the best solution.

Though the Tango is supposed to be shown at the Electric Vehicle Automobile Association. I wonder how expensive it is to wander around and peek at the cars.
