Charter/Sonic Update

So it did take while for sonic to get my network setup, because they hadn't created a line in my area before, but they did email me periodically with status updates. (And it seems to be reliable these past few days).

I was originally planning on just canceling Charter's internet and letting dragonblink keep cable, but she was also peeved enough by Charter's pattern of service disconnections to go with dropping cable.

On a number of occasions we got "let me transfer you to my manager, , phone disconnect". Either a number of their service reps hang up on people, or their internal phone system has some serious problems.

I swapped the analog tuner card out of the mythtv box for a digital tuner, a pcHDTV 5500. Recording seems to work though my mac mini frontend doesn't have the cpu power to decode HD content.

Also I found Miro an easy to use online HD video downloading and management program, they've also got a really nice guide at miro guide.com which allows relatively easy browsing of a variety of content and provides a way of tracking downloads and rating.

With all that working I finally got around to calling charter and saying "goodbye". Though of course I got disconnected the first time I called while waiting in their queue.
