Orbital Space Settlement is a fairly impressive collection of information about building orbital colonies, its written by a NASA Ames scientist.

He's also got a paper, Kalpana One, documented an updated space settlement that deals with a number of the problems with the original 1970s era colony ideas.

What a bummer.

I remember making things for Space Set at JPL, That was pretty awesome. I believe one of the ideas we had a was a floating Hotel. I don't recall if it was around the moon, or around Mars.

I don't think I have all the materials anymore. I had so much fun doing Space Set. It was pretty exciting.

If I recall correctly, we created teams the first night then received our RFP that each team would be fullfilling. I don't recall exactly, but one was build a space hotel. I think we had to do a landing on Mars, and a few others.
After that we had to group our copmany (rockwell, vulture, ETC)
We had robotic, life support, Propultions. I remember our company had cheap lift rockets and we had an in on AeroGell. It was a matierial that was foam like but blocked radiation which we used in a our dome. I recall winning 3 times, with the one loss based on some wierd voting. (I don't recall exactly what happened but I recall being upset about the ruling) We had the better presentation. (I think their team only had 8 people where the rest of the teams had 12 plus, I can't be certain, it was around 20 years go. FSM i'm feeling old)

Anywho, I think this is the type of education our children needed. I know myself, I wasn't educated to my full potential. Had they given and dragged me through some real education how much more would I be producing for society. Just because I'm not that ambitious doesn't mean society should suffer.
