Iraq war, how to say we lost

On google news I saw Bin Laden kicking Bush's ass.

As I understand history the only way to win against a native population who are resisting is to start killing. Once you've wiped out 80-90% of the population, preferably with such overwhelming power that you take nearly no casualties the natives will eventually give up. (Or run out of natives). See for instance the conquest of the Americas by the Spanish and United States.

Unfortunately for any modern colonial empires, unlike in the 16th and 17th centuries the natives now actually have weapons that can shoot back. Assault rifles and grenades are available everywhere, and its pretty trivial to make your own home made high explosives. Then there are the changes John Robb's post discussing how are western societies aren't capable of total war any longer. And lastly we've become slightly more tolerant and now frown on genocide being inflicted on ethnic group.

Not only was invading iraq immoral and illegal it was colossally stupid. At this point the only question is how bad are we going to lose.

Technically we'll win most battles and skirmishes, but because of the constant waste of economic resources we will lose.

The part that hurts my brain the most, is this exactly what Bin Laden and Al Qaeda did to Russia. If you drain a super-power of enough money eventually the government collapses. Bin Laden knows this is an effective strategy, and by sucking the US into a giant quagmire in the middle east, where there are scores of entities dedicated to destroying us we will just waste money left and right.

One of the points the first post I linked to made, was that as China is one of the major creditors for our massive debt, the further in debt we become the more subservient to China we will be forced to be.

The question for a political party that wants to win is how to reduce that analysis to a catch phrase.

is in some ways really clever. i remember reading how it could be useful to have the government be badly in debt to it's populace - it is great insurance against rebellion! as long as you have confidence you'll eventually get paid, the government owing you money is a great reason to hope the government lasts a while. i wonder if it's perhaps useful to owe money to china, because it means a whole bunch of their money is in our care.
