Of off one of alternet.org's bloggers was a link to an interesting essay on how smut is republican. The author describes how a culture that defines womens sexuality purely through acting slutty as a way to appeal to men is profoundly dis-empowering to women as it dramatically restricts their own freedom of behavior--especially when this culture manages to define this through the commercialization of skin.

Also the madonna versus whore dichotomy is still alive and well, as many of these modern women, will happily act out, while still maintaining their virginity.

Another amusing detail was that although there's plenty of porn to be found in the world, it appears that people are becoming increasingly less likely to have sex with others. Which just seems to add more support to my opinion that american culture is a currently a culture of alienation and isolation.

Whatever happened to mystery or demureness anyway?

I love mystery and demureness... seriously, it is way more sexy to me than in your face stuff. Showing a hint of skin or the implication of sexual contact is very seductive. I have been called a pleasure delayer by a couple of people though.. so maybe my tastes are askew. ;)
