So I played with the debian demo installation of asterisk and managed to connect to it from a soft phone under OS X (X-Lite and Linux Kphone. I tried linphone but I couldn't hear anything.

Next is trying to learn how to configure asterisk to actually route calls, and how to get the bluetooth headset to plug into one of those soft phones.

Oh yeah, and to make these details more interesting to others, the end result should be. Clip headset on, push button, say "computer, dim lights", watch light dim.

A clapper is, the merest shadow of the subtle techno-magic that I weave. It is if one were comparing hemp thread to that of the finest silk.

It is unfortunate how limited human technology is, but one truly needs such a thing one could use the clapper as metaphor for what magic is actually being wrought.
