I also did something very expensive--I went to relax the back and bought a top of the line office chair as my old one had lost all of its padding and I kind of wanted lumbar support and other things found on high end chairs.
Though it seemed that the computers were conspiring to tell me "NO! for the love of your bank account don't buy the chair", as my ATM/credit card was declined under both the ATM and credit modes and the owner couldn't get through to the bank.
I then came up with the clever idea of applying for their credit card as such things tend to get approved quickly. The owner was rather impressed with the credit line they gave me. Apparently my credit worthiness is nearly as good as couples making $20,000 per month.
Hah, that voluntary simplicity thread pays off. On the downside this means that I need to remember to look in my mailbox so I can pay off the card and cancel it when it shows up.
