I just learned about the Center for Responsive Politics off of a common dreams.org essay.

They're a "non-partisan, non-profit research group based in washington, d.c. that tracks money in politics"

You can do fun things like find out who the top contributers were for a particular zip code. and who they gave money to (for at least some states), as well as listing off which companies gave the most money to which political parties (or associated committees.
