The association for renaissance martial arts (ARMA) is having an introductory class NTP 1.0 in Las Vegas on Oct 23 and 24. After having grown up on way too much medieval fantasy there is something strangely appealing about learning what seems to be a fairly realistic recreation of the wester martial arts.

Anyone else want to go and learn how to use a medieval long sword?

I've thought for a while that it'd be cool to learn to fight with axes. An unusual style (so one that opponents would likely be unfamiliar with), you can throw them in a pinch, and they're easy weapons to find in a hurry (also useful when the revolution comes). I have way too many other things to do to actually spend time finding such a thing, but if someone popped up at Caltech offering a course in two-handed hatchet fighting, I'd totally sign up. :^)
