Transhumanism.org was commenting on an article in a recent issue of Free Inquiry (a secular humanist magazine). Editor Austin Dacey opined that:

The movement [transhumanism], which has gathered force in the last ten years and coalesced around organizations like the Extropy Institute, the online magazine BetterHumans, and the World Transhumanist Association, is a motley crew of serious academics, journalists, and scientists, cyber self-help gurus, nanotech venture capitalists, polyamorists and gender-benders, cryonics freaks, and artificial intelligence geeks.

No wonder I'm drawn to them, I am several of those things and am strongly sympathetic to most of the others. (About the only thing I have issues with are the venture capitalists, but that's merely from critiques of capitalism).

Hmm. Sounds like an interesting group of folks to me. I find I'm usually interested in groups of people described as "motley crew."

I'll have to read up on this at some point in the near future.

I'm not sure if I'd actually like them in person, but on-line it sounds good.

some of the sites that I'm currently looking at are transhumanism.org and a site they linked to betterhumans.org
