since three people asked very similar questions I'll respond this way.

As far as I can tell LCD projectors actually have the better resolution, projectors go up to 1280x1024 for the more expensive models, it seems that 1024x768 is more common.

Plasma displays being intended as widescreen TV sets and so tend to do 16:9 and have unusual resolutions for computers, for example one of the better resolutions I found was 1365x768.

Either of those displays would work better in this new larger space for viewing accross the room, filling the use case of entertaining or computing from the couch.

On the other hand the 23" apple cinema display is only $1999 list, which is big enough to be viewable to a few people and would be much better for my typical use. The cinema display does 1920x1200.

Yes but have you seen the difference in clarity of the image? We have both at the office and the plasma screens are crystal clear and silent - whether used for TV output or PC (we do both). The projectors on the other hand are noisy and produce fuzzy output, even on a quality projection screen. If cost weren't an issue there'd be no contest.

No, I've only seen plamsa displays showing ordinary broadcast TV which really isn't much of a demonstration.

I've been impressed with the apple cinema display. If I had the cash, that's what I would buy. I wouldn't be entertaining enough people where I would need an image larger than the cinema display.
