Minerva's Machine

A week or two ago I watched Minerva's Machine, a documentary sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery on women in computing.

During the moview one of the social scientists made a comment about how in the 80's being a computer geek made people less gendered, women were less feminine, men were less masculine.

A bit later I was chatting with one of my coworkers about women in computing and realized the above might also provide a theory why some many trans people (especially in my age range) seemed interested in computers. If you're unhappy with your experience of gender, becoming a less gendered being might help minimize the unpleasantness.
