And now for something completely different

I went with a number of my coworkers to go see the opening of X men, rather a fun romp.

Though I really wonder if whoever originally came up with the X-men story idea was closeted about something. (Dealing with being different and rejection from the larger society seems to be a big theme in the story).

I think theres always been a tiny bit of that in the story, but it kind of developed over time I think. I'mn ot sure it is so much about being closeted about something (that's more one of the big themes in smallville) but perhaps the movie is more like this.

Being different and not so much rejection, but genrerally utter hatred and a fair bit of fear from society at large being the main themes. Genocide being a strong current that runs through it all, both in eriks past, and also in the future that xavier and erik are trying to avoid in their different ways.

It's about hating people just because of who they are and the work of the far right to play on peoples fears in order cleanse the population of those who are different.
