President Bush values him and those like him having money and power instead of the planet being habitable. I'm assuming he and the other scary rich white guys either are so in love with money and power that they can't see the data saying the way of life that gives them their power is killing off the rest of humanity, or perhaps they just don't care.

I'm not sure which is more frightening.

I really wish there was some way for the European Union to impose sanctions on the U.S. to force compliance with they Kyoto protocol. Most of the rest of the industrialized world thinks that something like it is a good idea. So why can't they trade with each other and start cutting the U.S. out.

Ideally they could negotiate with OPEC to put the U.S. on a declining quota of oil imports to force cuts in U.S. carbon dioxide emissions.

I've tried contacting my representatives, but on the whole america is obsessed with economic growth at any and all costs, and so these opinions are unpopular here.

(Though my more progressive friends think the U.S. deserves sanctions for dropping out of the kyoto treaty. And it would just be amusing to have an arrogant country with an extra arrogant leader be slapped around by the international community.)
