Travelling

So I've been thinking about travelling, and aside from trying to remember what I did with my birth certificate, there's one nagging worry about travelling that I have.

What do I do with my cat. I'm not fond of the idea of leaving her in my apartment alone for a week or two. And what if I wanted to go away for a month?

What does one do? Anyone have experience with this?

If you come back after a couple of months does your cat still remember you?

Yes, she will remember you. My cats had no trouble remembering me when I was in Santa Cruz. Hell, cats that aren't even mine that I haven't seen in many months remember me when I see them again. Don't worry.

As for what to do, I'm not sure, since she's an only cat. My kits have each other, so I don't worry about loneliness. I just have someone come over as often as I can afford (between twice a day and once every three days), take care of water/food/litter, and hang out with the kits for an hour or so. You should probably try to do shorter trips occasionally to see how she does before trying longer ones.

Be prepared for her to let you know that she's unhappy about you being gone, though. It's not unusual to find some destruction when you get home - urination and/or defecation outside of the litter box (I've heard lots of stories about it happening in shoes), scratching or shredding or breaking of favorite objects, etc. Jasper always poops on the carpet when I leave.

And, of course, you may get lectured when you get home (Phoebe always gives me a piece of her mind - how dare I!), or find your fuzzy one much more loving (both my kits want lots of love after I come back, and it can last for quite some time).

She did do okay when I went away for a week to seattle, though clare stopped by daily and played with her. And I think iset is still being more affectionate than before.
