So the automatic seat belt on my car broke, and the second gear is getting hard to shift into.

Basically my car has been mistreated and is 10 years old and is being the long process of decaying into nothingness.

Part of me wishes that I didn't need to have a car, they're annoying, expensive, and bad for the environment. But I unfortunately live in a city that was built for the car and do like to visit my friends in the evening. And doing that basically requires that I own a car.

But interest rates should be amazingly low right now, and car dealerships are having trouble selling cars, so it should be a great time to buy a car if I was inclined to.

So the question comes down to do I buy a $10,000 car or a $20,000 car.

Basically, do I buy a Toyota echo, or low end Honda civic (about $10,000 for a 30/40mpg (city/highway) car) or do I suck it up and spend $20,000 on one of the hybrid gas-electric cars, Honda Insight or Toyota Prius, which get 60/70mpg

Although they get double the gas mileage the pure gas cars have better cargo capacity and probably are easier to get fixed. Also I don't really drive that much. However the insight is a really cool looking car and has some really impressive technology attached to it.
