What a hack

I'm tired of the lack of extension support of camino (an os x specific variant of the mozilla gecko rendering engine) and want to fix some of the things that were really annoying about firefox on os x. This requires building mozilla, and that requires building glib and libIDL.

glib wasn't too bad other than needing gettext.

libIDL was a pain. So I hacked it so it built, and then discovered I built a much earlier version.

The new one built much easier, other than discovering that libiconv which something depended on wasnt built with -flat_namespace.

I forgot about the performance problems.

The two things I was going after. One was to get it to read the system proxy settings, because dialing out over my phone requires a different proxy than usual. The other was to get firefox to use keychain.

Performance problems would be a lot harder to deal with.

I can say that the firefox head looks like its using native styled widgets. Though I didn't use it enough to see if HEAD was faster. (startup seemed slower, but that could be for a host of reasons).

I found the meta bug page for firefox/os x integration. Bugzilla Bug 237584.

So far I've discovered there's a patch for using internet connect, but it was too ugly to go into the main trunk.

Hi there...

imho, certain aspects of punctuation are redundant. why do we need both a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence and a period marking the end of the previous sentence.
