I was a bad girl - I bought a phone

So there's this "dealer" who comes by my school on thursdays pushing cell phones, and since he's targeting more of the geek set he carries the cool phones. Unfortunately for me they know my weakness and the showed me the newest shinest phone they have--Nokia E61.

I'd been hoping to find an E70, as I thought the foldy out bit was neat, and the E61 doesn't have a camera.

But it was there, it has builtin wifi, bluetooth, a better web browser, can hold a 2 GiB mini SD card and has VoIP software, I failed my saving throw and walked out with it.

The phone is so unavailable in the US that Dr. Wireless threw in the European to US power plug adapter for the continental pronged AC adapter.

I hope nokia releases python for S60, Third Edition soon!.

I've just friended you because I saw your user picture when I added Cal Poly Pomona to my list of schools. I attended there from 1991 to 1996, mostly hanging around the physics and math departments. Your face seems awfully familiar. If you are the person I knew back then and used to play RPGs with, then how are you doing? If you're not, just let me know I've made a mistake and I'll va-MOOSE. -- Kevin

I've been found!

The internet isn't the anonymous place I remember it to be.

Outside of that I'm doing pretty well, still working as a software developer at caltech, I'm getting pulled into some politics as the greens kind of need some warm bodies, and I also play world of warcraft.

Let's see... I think the last time we bumped into one another was at one of those local cons near LAX. Since then, I stopped working for Alderac, found work as a software engineer, did some RPG writing on the side, moved to Houston in 2003, and just recently found a new job (still as a software engineer) near Augusta, GA, where I've been living since April.

Cool! I got both a Nokia E70 and Nokia E61. Both very, very good devices. I hope you will find them as useful and powerful as I have.

That's a useful looking blog.

Do you have any strong preferences between the two phones?

I don't like the look of the 70. Seems like I would forget to close it and it would break. 60 and 61 look cool. But you say the 61 doesn't have a camera? 60 it is. Where do I pick one up?

There's also the E50 which I don't know about... These phones aren't available from any cell phone store so you'd have to look for an importer. I'd say either search froogle or ebay.

I think the word hidden in your reply was "effort". Well, crap. There goes "having the same one as Diane."

So...I should call you today to test it out!

Yeah, its an über phone where you have to put some effort in to getting it. If it was easy to get then everyone'd have one and it wouldn't be cool anymore.

And yes you should call me. Or you could text message me and I could answer using this schw33t keyboard on this phone.

Done and done.

Well, the text message part at least.

Thanks. Glad the blog was helpful.
I like them booth. I actually got the E70 so that I could have a smaller device, but still with a QWERTY keyboard. I tend to use the E61 Monday - Friday and then swap the SIM for the weekend phone - Nokia E70. Since the feature set is about the same (plus the camera on the E70) I can use the same software etc.
My next project is to get the E60 and the E50 and.......
