So my old laptop hard disk failed this morning.

In 5 hours I managed to:

  • go to CompUSA

  • attempt to take advantage of the extended warranty

  • discover that it would take them 14 days to replace the part

  • get irritated with the tech and see if there was any solution to get a replacement drive

  • Give up dealing with them

  • Buy and eat some yummy fast-food vegan food

  • Do my laundry

  • Figure out what recent email hadn't been backed up from my laptop and requeue it for download

  • take my laptop apart

  • restore from backup onto my new 30 GB hard disk

  • install the new 30 gb drive

  • put laptop back together again

  • Fix an issue with the boot parameters not being set

  • Fix an issue the telling it which drives to mount

  • feel accomplished at having everything go so smoothly

Though this has taught me, there is absolutely no point in ever getting an extended warranty. For me my money is better spent getting the service manual.

Also there's just something nice about having 21GB free disk space. Mmmm... more MP3s.
