Can someone tell me why the Terri Schiavo case is getting headlines?

There are all sorts of things going on in the world that are more important. In a century historians will be arguing about why we weren't deailing with our trade deficit, federal deficit, the conflict between religion and science, the iraq and afghanistan occupations, global warming, the struggle with china over the worlds resources, the various limitations on raw materials we're facing, and of course population growth.

Why can't this Terri Schiavo thing go back to being a private spat between parents who can't let go and her husband who did?

It's probably because it's so disconnected from anything that will actually impact most of the people watching they feel safe in forming opinions about something that should have no impact on their lives.

i think you just answered your own question.
(don't you think the case is getting so much news at least partly to avoid discussing such topics as the ones you mention above?)
