Perfectionism

As I sit here trying to finish writing up my presentation. (Now that I got to procrastinate it for so log.) I've realized there are two really obnoxious things about having the tendency toward perfectionism.

First off, there's the tendency to avoid doing stuff 'cause you're just not going to get it done right. Especially those things you've never tried to do before in your life.

Then there's the problem that even after you manage to start doing something it'll end up taking way too long because you end up obsessing about all of the little ways that things can go wrong.

well at least that's the way it works out for me.

Awww, hang in there! When you feel you're bogging down in perfectionism, try to step back and remember how unimportant the details are. Remember what the presentations from the others were like, and how imperfect they were, and how that didn't matter.

And try to make your peace with the stress caused by an imminent presentation -- you worry about it, but it's that worry that shows you care to present an interesting and informative talk to your audience. That is, although you can't probably fully eliminate the stress, remember that it's somewhat inevitable, and actually has some positive benefit to helping you focus to get the job done. The folks who *don't* care are the worst -- their uncaring attitude about their audience shows.

Remember practically *everyone* gets some stress over giving presentations, so it's not just *you* being especially paranoid. Also, remember that you've survived previous presentations, even if they *were* long ago -- you *did* survive them. It's not "rocket science", y'know -- perfection is not actually required!

G'luck!

Okay, so I am worrying about reasonable things... like if I'm going to far above or below my audience. I do remember that other peoples first presentations tended to be a bit rough.

But the die is ready to be cast. I've finished writing my slides and so now, I'm going to go to bed. Hopefully it'll all work out tomorrow morning.
