Ah naivete.

Dave "I killed the mad cow" Louthan has a blog.

His personal frustration with the USDA. One of the most interesting quotes "Ann Veneman keeps lying and lying. Her own committee told us we have alot of sick cows here so she fired them and put another committee together made up of Ranchers, Rendering company people, For God’s sake, she hired a Mcdonalds company man. Guess what this committee’s recomendations are going to be?"

I wonder what's more important to her, profit or the health and well-being of those eating beef?

In other beef related news some guy was peeved that the beef bowl chain ran out of cheap beef because of the mad cow disease in the US, and shouted What kind of gyudon shop doesn't serve gyuoden? before attacking other customers. (I'm assuming he was shouting in Japanese and not English.

well, the answer is so glaringly obvious. it's always been glaringly obvious at the FDA, regardless of whether it's beef, or GMOs, or fast food, or sugar, or ...

this seems to be a system-wide problem with this administration (don't like what they have to say, fire them and appoint someone new). the FDA's been this way for at least a decade, though.
