I took my car to the mechanic and they could only remove one spark plug. It was covered with gobs of nasty gunk. They wanted to take the other spark plugs out and do a compression test, but were worried that forcing it too hard might break the engine.

So I ended up asking how much a replacement engine would be--about $1200 for a used one. Considering how much I've abused the current one, that might not be a bad idea.

The other nifty car detail is I've discovered the existence of aftermarket air conditioners that should fit in my car.

So it looks like I'm leaning toward getting my car functional again, and then after I get out of debt pour some more money into fixing the various body problems. It's sort of like a new car but cheaper and I can make interest free payments by following the pay-as-I-go scheme.

I'm not sure if this is the most environmentally conscious solution. It does have the advantage of keeping another car out of the land fill and reduces the numbers of cars being manufactured. Both of which are worthwhile additions. Eventually I can contemplate swapping the engine out with an electric engine.
