Is it possible to follow the atkins diet healthfully? asks a Tufts Nutritionist newsletter.

They're at least trying to be balanced about it unlike my ideological compatriots at Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. Or the industry sponsored Center for Consumer Freedom (who takes money from tyson foods and the national cattlemen's beef association.

All from Vegans vs. Atkins on salon.

I don't know squat about Atkins, but can you do it with non-meat products? Are tofu et al high enough in protein and low enough in carbs?

Yes it's possible to be vegetarian on the atkins diet, it's rather weird but doable. However cutting out carbohydrates cuts out too many useful nutritious foods. Aparently fruit is rather frowned on in the atkins diet.

If you're going to cut out carbohydrates you really only need to cut out the junk food that average american eats like sodas, candy, pastries, etc.
