Went and saw "Whale Rider" tonight. It was a moving movie about a girls efforts to deal with her culture (and her grandfathers) refusal to accept women as leaders.

It seemed different from dune. The conflict was largely a battle of wills between a 12 year old girl and her traditionalist grandfather. No galactic warfare over a prised resource.

What's your critera for good? Most of the acting was well done, I'm not sure I liked the prortral of one of the more minor characters. The story was compelling and believable.

I thought it was good.

My crieria for good requires that 1. the story and script are good, interesting, not stupid inastupid way, 2. the acting is good, and 3. tht he cirecting and cinematography be somewhat acceptable (indie films are on lower budgets, so my crieria is a little loer for those films)

It's set in new zeland. The friend I went with asked if it NZ requires a certain number of beautiful landscape shots.
