China plans manned spaceflight in 2003. A manned space program seems to be a far more civilized way of showing off your national technical skill than building more weapons of mass destruction.

And maybe it'll help keep funding for NASA. And Europe, you've probably got the technical resources for a manned program too.

Yes, yes, and furthermore... YES! Gah, I don't even want to think about how different things would be if they poured more money into NASA space projects and less into weapons research.

One hopes. NASA still doesn't have a budget yet; we're all waiting. Europe... an EU space program would be interesting; we'd get to see something other than commerical satellites being sent up. And how about Australia? I keep thinking Australia could do with a strong space program. It's definitely a good place to observe the stars due to less population and light pollution, that's for sure.
